The storm is over, and we did not get 6 inches. We got 7. You just can’t trust a forecast.
I parked my car on the road on Friday night (April 15) and it hasn’t moved since. It could not move. It was boxed in. With snow. And. I had just installed the summer tires. I think I said that earlier.
Last Friday, after I posted, I saw a report that our community has the most snow cover of any. I have to repeat that. ANY other community in Canada. So that would include Ulukhaktok.
True, Ulukhaktok is not the most northerly weather station in Canada. Sachs Harbour is. But I thought Ulukhaktok would be a more recognizable name. And it’s just a few klicks south of Sachs Harbour.
Where are these communities, you ask? Tsk, tsk. They are in the Arctic Ocean, silly. In Canada.
Not only did we get an inch more snow than forecast, but the snowplow missed my car. Will I get a third time lucky? You see, my car is normally red, but over the weekend, it was white. It was like, you know, the colour of snow.
We’re getting snow buntings now at our feeders. Never got them all winter. What happened is, I think, they were winging their way north to Ulukhaktok when they heard the weather forecast, so they turned right around and came back south. They hate summery places like Ulukhaktok.
No, I am not bitter. I am retired. I know that what goes around, comes around.
And summer IS coming.
One of these years.
